I know it sucks if your child has newborn jaundice, but don’t worry too much. A recent study has shown that jaundice, or rather the bilirubin that causes jaundice, is actually a strong antioxidant that protects the baby’s cells!

1) Newborn baby jaundice is common. It is especially common among Asian babies but it has got nothing to do with ginger (despite what your doctor may tell you).

2) You need to breastfeed very frequently so as to have bowel movement and good hydration to clear the jaundice. So you need to breastfeed very frequently (at least every 2-3 hours).

3) You don’t need to supplement with glucose water. It does not help at all, so don’t bother.
